A complex thing, but the idea that big government should force women, especially thousands f rape victims in the U.S. alone who get pregnat by their brutal attackers, to stay pregnant, is a repugnant, repulsive concept that was practiced by both Hitler and the communists, both of whom forced women to remain pregnant. It's an Orwellian, totalitarian concept that I, as one evangelical, want no part of. The church is not the Third Reich.
Gay Marriage:
What God may think is beside the point. WE can't force our views on those who are not in our household of faith.Christian morality is from the inner HEART or it's no obedience to God at all. What others do is not my business. If I force my faith's teachings on others, it's a sure thing that they will tunr around and get in MY face. Besides, the evidence seems compelling that gays can no more help their nature than fish can stop swimming and birds cease to fly - countless church attempts to "cure" them have failed again and again. This is why I and a growing number of other evangelicals and also conservatives now refuse to continue with this farce any longer - as Obama once said, our views are evolving. I'm of the view that it is really none of my business, and if I meddle with the lives of others, what goes around will come around.
I suppose right wing Libertarians say about as much as all this, and even hardcore GOPs like Dick Cheney see the sense of it.
I've read Scripture more times than you can count, don't patronize me. God did not inspire the Word to cause us to run from observed reality.
As to the fires of hell, I can only pray "Mercy triumphs over judgment" (James), I will not presume to "damn" you, brother, as you "damn" me.
See Romans 7 as to the poor sap who finds himself faced with that he cannot help. Was Paul gay as he penned Romans 7? Perhaps? I'm not sure.
